Get help

Vays is an open-source project maintained in the open. The fastest way to get help is to:

1. Check the FAQ on the main page — most common questions are answered there.
2. Open an issue on GitHub at github.com/arvindjuneja/voicememo/issues. This is the preferred channel because:
   • It's public, so other users can find the answer.
   • You can attach screenshots and logs.
   • The issue tracker is searchable, which means future users with the same problem will find your fix.
3. Email the maintainer at [email protected] if your question contains private information you don't want to post publicly.

Reporting a bug

When you report a bug, please include:

• Your device model (e.g. iPhone 15 Pro, MacBook Air M2)
• The OS version (e.g. iOS 17.4, macOS 14.5)
• The Vays version from the Settings → About screen
• What you did, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened
• Any error message or screenshot, if applicable

Subscription & refunds

Vays Pro is sold through the Apple App Store. All subscription management — viewing the renewal date, cancelling, or requesting a refund — happens through Apple, not through us:

• Manage your subscription: Settings app → Apple ID (your name at the top) → Subscriptions → Vays Pro.
• Cancel: same place. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep Pro features until then.
• Request a refund: visit reportaproblem.apple.com. Refunds are at Apple's discretion.

Common issues

"My iPhone can't find my Mac"

Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and that the Mac app is running (you should see a green dot in the sidebar status footer when the sync server is advertising). On the iPhone, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and confirm Vays has permission. If the Mac is on a corporate or guest network that blocks Bonjour, sync won't work — switch to a normal home Wi-Fi.

"On-device transcription failed"

The first transcription warms up the model and can take 10-30 seconds — subsequent transcriptions are instant. If it fails, try going to Settings → Transcription, deleting the model, and re-downloading. Make sure you have at least 1 GB of free disk space.

"Gemma chat says it can't load the model"

Gemma 4 E2B requires about 1.5 GB of free storage and around 2 GB of RAM during inference. On older iPhones with less RAM, the model may fail to load if other apps are using memory — close other apps and try again. The chat uses a serial inference queue, so opening chat while a recording is auto-processing will wait for the recording to finish first.

"My Polish transcription is poor"

If you're using WhisperKit Small as the engine on iPhone, switch to Parakeet TDT v3 in Settings → Transcription → Engine. Parakeet is the recommended engine for European languages and is the default for new installs.

Privacy & data requests

Vays does not collect or store any of your data on our servers — we have no servers. There is therefore no data for us to delete, export, or transfer. If you want to delete your Vays data, simply delete the app from your device; iOS / macOS will remove the entire app sandbox including all your recordings, transcripts, summaries, and settings.
